Rugby League (Brisbane): In what was a bye week across the board for all of the Brisbane Tigers sides the League and More team spoke to Brisbane Tigers BHP Premiership coach Adrian Vowles in this episode.

Vowles, who has held the head coaching role of the Queensland women’s origin team was in his first season as coach of the Tigers BHP premiership team.

Under Vowles tutelage, the Tigers drew with Tweed Heads in the final round of the season which saw them finish equal on points at the end of the regular season with the Seagulls.

The Tigers inferior points differential saw them finish sixth with Wests who finished with just a point more than the Tigers qualified for the finals in what was a true indication of the teams improvement this year.

Despite being the only team in the competition to not have any Queensland or Australian representative players the Tigers held their own in season 2021.

Vowles speaking on League and More couldn’t be happier with his team’s performance this season.

“The improvement in some of the players who got an opportunity… absolutely stoked with how the girls went (this year)” Vowles said.

“I can’t give enough wraps to how hard they worked… everyone bought in, we had a really good crew”

Vowles biggest challenge was off the field this season as he looked to build a successful culture that would leave the Tigers in good stead for years to come.

Speaking on League & More, Vowles said one of his biggest goals was to change the culture of the club.

Despite admitting to being strict on the playing group he said the girls have passed on their ambitions to change the culture this season.

“I needed to make sure to change the culture you can’t be doing what you’ve always done. I had to be quite strict and put some things in place that we follow” Vowles said.

“They worked really hard, we talked about changing the culture and that’s what we’ve done”

The BHP Premiership season wraps up this weekend with a top of the table clash when Valleys take on the Burleigh Bears at Totally Workwear Stadium this Sunday at 4:15pm.
