It’s a return to action for both the Brisbane Tigers Intrust Super Cup side and the Hastings Deering Colts as both teams look to press on with their finals aspirations in 2021.

Tigers centre Dan Russell joined League & More host John Devine in the studio this week to recap the win.

“The mindset was it was going to be a physical game, we just needed to complete (our sets) and just play to our gameplan” Russell said.

“The first half we had a lot of opportunities but just stressed a bit on the line”.
Brisbane Tigers coach John Buchanan echoed Russell’s sentiment saying his side lacked the composure in the first half as they entered half time at 12 points apiece “I thought we had some opportunities… we just lacked a little bit of patience in the first half” Buchanan said.

“We needed to be better, and the second half was better.” The second half was much better with the Tigers piling on 28 unanswered points to roar home to victory in the Gold Coast.

The win was a great result for the Tigers with the Papua New Guinea strong contingent in the crowd roaring their side on from the opening kick off.

Russell, a Papua New Guinean international, spoke of the vocal Papua New Guinean crowd on this weeks League and More episode and the passion with which the country views the game.

“The passion from the country for the sport is huge… It’s hard to explain, it’s unbelievable and it’s what drives you” Russell said.
Traditional rivals the Redcliffe Dolphins await the Tigers this weekend with both sides on six points and eager to press their claims on a top eight spot.

Previewing this weekends matchup with the Dolphins, Buchanan said his side will have to play to their best to claim the two points this weekend.

“They’re a really good footy team, we’re going to have to play well to beat them” Buchanan said.

Intrust Super Cup action kicks off at 3pm this Sunday at Totally Workwear Stadium with the Colts also taking on Redcliffe at 1pm.

The Tigers BHP Premiership will also be hungry for back to back victories after accounting for the CQ Capras last weekend at Totally Workwear Stadium.

The girls face Valleys at Emerson Park on Saturday at 4:45pm with a win potentially pushing the girls into the top four.
